It's Party Time!
Not much beats having your friends over! And when
friends visit it is always fun to make great-tasting snacks that you can do on
your own. Try some of these tips to
wow your friends...
Up the Fun!

Make your party even more fun by choosing a theme.
Plan an
After-School Luau
for a Friday afternoon -
get help and decorate
the house and backyard
with tissue paper
flowers, use a small
wading pool to cool your
toes and ask everyone to
bring along their
funniest Hawaiian shirt. |
|
Or, you could make it a
Post-Game Tail-Gate, kids only of course!
Perfect for after Friday football or Saturday soccer
games. Invite the team,
watch your favorite
sports videos and serve a meaty meal with all the fixin's to re-fuel everyone's
tired bodies. |

 |
Try a
Monster Burger Blast for Halloween and
have guests build BIG burgers. Use the same idea in the summer with a
Backyard Bash
that has music and great grilled goodies. |
|
A
Board-Game Night
can take on a whole new
meaning if you play a
game like
Clue
and serve a "killer"
beef meal, complete with
service by
Mr. Green
in the kitchen!

Have Fun, Eat Smart, Stay Fit!
Like those adults always say, "you are what you eat!"
That means the food you munch on makes a difference in what your body can do
and how your brain can perform. Just like the gas you put in a car, the food
you eat is what makes you the great kid you are! Make sure that fuel is of the
highest grade and will get you through your day.
Since you're a high-energy kid your growing body is
constantly burning it's fuel (that cereal from breakfast and the sandwich you
ate for lunch) so be sure you're always running on a full tank by eating every
four hours or so. Healthy meals with power-packed snacks in between will help
you perform on the field, in the classroom and even when you're
just playing with
friends. A "healthy meal" means that you get both protein (like meat or
dairy) and carbohydrates
(from breads and pastas) as
well as some sort of
veggie or fruit. These
foods work together to
give you vitamins,
minerals and other
nutrients that are the
fuel you need! So snag a
snack with cheese and
crackers topped with
apple slices or roll a
tortilla around some
deli roast beef, cream
cheese and lettuce -
it's a fuel just for you.
We All Need ZIP!
Zinc,
Iron
and
Protein,
that is! These
body-building nutrients
are in some of your
favorite foods, like
burgers and steaks.
These nutrients help
your body in many ways.
For instance, zinc helps
your body fight off
colds. Iron is key to
brain development. And,
protein helps build
strong muscles. Beefy
meals also give you
B-vitamins which help
your body make the food
you eat into the energy
you have.
