Carne Asada

Total Recipe Time:  20 to 25 minutes
Makes 2 to 4 servings

Ingredients

2 boneless beef top loin (strip) steaks, cut 1 inch thick (about 10 ounces each)2 teaspoons ground cumin2 large cloves garlic, minced2 lime wedges1/2 to 1 cup prepared guacamoleAdditional lime wedges (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine cumin and garlic; press evenly onto beef steaks.
  2. Place steaks on grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill, uncovered, 15 to 18 minutes for medium rare (145°F) to medium (160°F) doneness, turning occasionally.
  3. Squeeze juice from 1 lime wedge over each steak. Carve steaks into thin slices. Serve with guacamole; garnish with lime wedges, if desired.

To broil, place steaks on rack in broiler pan so surface of beef is 3 to 4 inches from heat. Broil 13 to 17 minutes for medium rare (145°F) to medium (160°F) doneness, turning once.
